How much does liposuction cost in Germany?
Short answer: between 2,000 and 7,500 euros per zone. Per zone. That's important. Because most people don't just get one area treated.
Most patients in Germany end up paying between 3,500 and 6,000 euros. For a single zone. When you combine multiple zones, many clinics offer package deals.
But... it depends. On the body area. On the method. On the city. And yes, on the surgeon too.

Here's where it gets specific. These prices are based on real offers from German clinics:

Which method costs what?
Not all liposuction is the same. There are different techniques now and they come at different price points.
Tumescent liposuction (classic) The standard method. Most commonly performed. Cost: 2,000 - 5,000 EUR per zone. Proven, safe, most affordable option.
Water-jet assisted liposuction (WAL) Gentler on tissue. Cost: 3,000 - 6,000 EUR per zone. Slightly more expensive but less swelling afterward.

Honestly. For most patients the tumescent method works perfectly fine. The expensive techniques have their place in specific cases. But "more expensive" doesn't automatically mean "better".
Does health insurance cover anything?
Short answer: usually no. Liposuction is considered a cosmetic procedure.
But. There's one exception. Lipedema.
Since 2024, German statutory health insurance covers liposuction for lipedema stage III. The conditions:
- Confirmed diagnosis of lipedema stage III
- Conservative therapy (compression, lymphatic drainage) for at least 6 months
- Pre-approval from your insurance before the procedure
For stages I and II it gets complicated. Some insurers pay, some don't. An application is always worth trying. A rejection isn't final. Appeal it.
Without a lipedema diagnosis? Then you're paying everything yourself.
Hidden costs nobody mentions
The price the clinic quotes you... usually isn't everything. Add on:
- Consultation and examination: 50 - 150 EUR (often credited toward treatment)
- Compression garments: 80 - 200 EUR (you'll need them for 6-8 weeks)
- Follow-up appointments: sometimes included, sometimes extra
- Time off work: 1-2 weeks depending on scope
- Lymphatic drainage: 40 - 80 EUR per session, 6-10 sessions recommended
The drainage sessions alone can add 400 to 800 euros. Almost nobody tells you that upfront.
Financing: how to pay?
Not everyone has 5,000 euros sitting around. Are there options?
Payment plans through the clinic: Many clinics offer installment plans. Often through medipay or medkred. Terms from 6 to 72 months. Interest between 3 and 10 percent.
Personal loan: Some take out a regular installment loan. Interest rates are higher now than a few years ago. Comparing offers is worth it.
Saving up: The most honest option. No interest, no stress. Just takes time.
One tip. If a clinic promises "0% financing," read the fine print. The interest is usually baked into the treatment price. It's not really 0%.
What to look for when choosing a clinic
Cheaper isn't better. Sounds obvious but... at 2,000 euros for abdominal liposuction you should look very carefully.
The minimum:
- Board-certified plastic surgeon. Not "cosmetic surgeon" (that's not a protected title in Germany). Not a general practitioner with a weekend course. The full specialist certification.
- Before and after photos: Clinic won't show them? Red flag.
- Thorough consultation: At least 30 minutes. If someone rushes you in 10 minutes and wants to book the surgery right away... leave.
- Transparent pricing: All costs in writing. Before the procedure. No surprises after.
- Reviews: Read real patient reviews. Not just the ones on the clinic's own website.

Quick reality check. Liposuction isn't always the answer.
CoolSculpting (cryolipolysis): Fat reduction through cooling. No surgery. Cost: 500 - 1,500 EUR per zone. Only works for small fat deposits though. Result: 20-25% reduction. No miracles.
Diet and exercise: Free. Takes longer. But for evenly distributed fat it's often the better solution. Liposuction removes local deposits. It doesn't make you slim.
Liposuction works best for: stubborn local fat deposits that won't go away despite exercise. Saddlebags. Love handles. Double chin. When everything else is fine but one spot just won't cooperate.
